If you live in Canton, you already know the township doesn't have a single main street where everything happens. What you may not have mapped out is how neatly the late-summer calendar splits between two civic anchors on opposite sides of town, and how the rhythm changes once the concert series ends in mid-August. This is the short version of what's still on the books between now and the first cold Sunday in October.
Canton's weekend runs on two parks, not one
Most townships this size cluster their public life around one downtown. Canton runs on two: Heritage Park behind the Canton Administration Building at 1150 S. Canton Center Road, and Preservation Park at 500 N. Ridge Road inside Cherry Hill Village. Both host free programming through the summer, both have amphitheater-style lawns, and neither is walking distance from the other. Once you internalize the split, the weekly calendar makes sense.
- Heritage Park (south-central Canton): Thursday-night concerts, the Liberty Fest grounds, the Summit on the Park recreation center at 46000 Summit Parkway.
- Preservation Park (Cherry Hill Village): Sunday farmers market, Rally on Ridge, the Village Arts Factory Warehouse at 50755 Cherry Hill Road, and the Village Theater at Cherry Hill at 50400 Cherry Hill Road.
Everything else in this post is a variation on those two locations.
Sunday morning belongs to Preservation Park
The Canton Farmers Market runs Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Preservation Park through October 11, 2026, rain or shine. Two Sundays in that stretch are dark: August 30 and September 27. If you've been going all summer and only remember it as a produce stop, the late-season markets are the ones that quietly shift toward pantry goods. Market coordinator Elayna Dooley has described the 2026 season as sponsored by Renewal by Andersen, and the vendor list this year leans heavily on shelf-stable items you can carry home in one bag: Ski's Sausage Company, The Cheese People of Grand Rapids, The Mitten Peanut Butter Company, STEAP loose-leaf teas, Olde Crow Snacks, MFER Seasonings & Sauces, and SpiceGrrrl, alongside the usual produce growers.
The market is also the only reliably programmed Sunday event in Canton right now. If you're hosting family in September and need something low-lift before brunch, this is the answer. Bring a canvas bag, park in the Cherry Hill Village lots, and plan on twenty minutes.
Thursday nights until August 13, and then it goes quiet
The Thursday Night LIVE concerts happen in the Heritage Park amphitheater on the Summit on the Park campus, running from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with headliners starting at 7. The 2026 series wraps on August 13, which means you have exactly two more Thursdays to catch it before the amphitheater goes quiet for the season. Bring a lawn chair; the front of the amphitheater fills up quickly on nights with a marquee cover band.
The practical takeaway for residents: if you want live outdoor music in Canton after August 13, you have to drive to a neighboring community or wait until next June. There is no September concert series here.
That's worth planning around. The last three months of outdoor programming are stacked into the first two weeks of August, and once the concert lawn empties out, the amphitheater is dark until the following summer. The community fireworks that used to close Liberty Fest were moved this year to Canton Ignites the Night on July 9 as part of the nationwide America 250 celebration, so August in Heritage Park is quieter than it has been in recent memory.
What the Village Theater picks up when the amphitheater lets go
The building most residents drive past without stepping inside is the Village Theater at Cherry Hill, a performing arts and education center on the corner of Ridge and Cherry Hill Roads that runs theatrical productions, concerts, dance, multicultural events, and fine art exhibitions. It seats 400 in the main auditorium and hosts a rotating slate of resident groups including Spotlight Players, Spotlight on Youth, the Canton Concert Band, and the Michigan Philharmonic.
Two main-stage runs are on the fall calendar: August 28 through August 30, and October 1 through October 2. The Gallery at Cherry Hill is also accepting entries for the 32nd Annual Canton Fine Arts Exhibition, which will be on display from September 23 through October 30, 2026. Entries close August 10, so if you paint or throw ceramics, this week is the deadline. If you don't, the exhibition itself is free and open when the theater is open, and it's the closest thing Canton has to a fall gallery walk.
Box office direct line: 734/394-5300, with hours Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday and Friday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Worth knowing because the online cutoff is two hours before curtain, and a fair number of Canton residents show up assuming they can buy at the door.
Friday-night dinner has shifted west along Ford Road
The Ford Road corridor between Sheldon and Beck has quietly become the newest-restaurant belt in Canton. If your usual Friday rotation is still the same four places it was two years ago, three of the more recent additions are worth working in.
The biggest arrival is CAVA, the Mediterranean fast-casual chain, which opened its first Michigan location at 43450 Ford Road in Canton Township. It's a bowl-and-pita counter rather than a sit-down date spot, but the 3,850-square-foot location runs daily from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m., which makes it one of the few places in this stretch open late enough for a post-concert dinner. On the sit-down side, Levant Kitchen is a newer addition on Canton's Ford Road serving Levantine plates, and a few blocks off the main strip, The Local Tavern has taken over the neighborhood-grill slot near Canton Center. Yelp's rolling list of newer Canton openings also includes The Beverly, Noble, Sycamore Tree Bakery & Cafe, and Taqueria Los Dos Potrillos, all of which have opened within the last couple of years.
There is also a Qdoba coming to the south end of town: Keystone Commercial Real Estate has confirmed a new location at 4935 S. Beck Road, south of Target and near Angie's Hamburger Stand. No opening date yet, but it fills in the fast-casual gap on the Beck Road side, which has been thin.

If you sort by geography rather than by date, the pattern becomes obvious: through mid-August, Canton's public weekends live at Heritage Park on Thursday nights and Preservation Park on Sunday mornings. After August 13, everything shifts to Cherry Hill Village. Preservation Park keeps the Sunday market going, and the Village Theater takes over the indoor programming for fall. Heritage Park effectively closes out its 2026 public calendar with the last Thursday concert.
That's the resident's version of the calendar. It's not a complete list of everything happening in the township, but it's the shortlist that actually holds up if you plan a weekend around it.
One practical note before you go
The two-park split also shows up in how people talk about neighborhoods here. Homes near Cherry Hill Village tend to describe themselves in relation to Preservation Park and the Village Theater; homes closer to Canton Center Road orient around Heritage Park and the Summit. Neither is objectively better.
